This picture is simple but significant. As is shown in the picture above, rising up his head, a young boy is holding a glorious sun with his firm hand. The caption indicates that, “ with dreams, our hearts can fly high; with flight, our dreams will not be far away.”
Why are dreams so importantWe may attribute its significance to three factors. First and foremost, dreams can give us courage and strength to overcome all the difficulties in our lives. Besides, having dreams is beneficial for us to be confident, passionate and energetic, and it may put us in a favorable position in our life journey. On the contrary, were there no dreams, our life will be dull and meaningless. Last but not least, if all of us have dreams, our society will be more vigorous and harmonious.
Considering every aspect of this positive issue, we should bear in mind that dreams are of great significance to both our society and ourselves. Therefore, the mass media, such as television, Internet and radio, should try best to propaganda and advocate it. As for ourselves, we should take practical actions to cherish our precious dreams and let them be realized. Then, we have every reason to be convinced that we can have a bright future if we have dreams.
This picture is really thought provoking. As is vividly shown in the above picture, a book is lying above the grass and beautiful flowers. Beside it, there is a topic thatsays:“reading”. There is no denying that the picture implies that reading is of utmost importance to us.
Considering every aspect of it, we may attribute its significance to three factors. First of all, reading can broaden our horizon, widen our knowledge and eich our experience. Besides, reading is to success what water is to a fish. It can put us in a favorable position in the job market. Last but not least, if all of us are willing to read more and extensively, our society will be more progressive and prosperous.
From what has been discussed above, we may safely draw a conclusion that reading is indispensable in our daily life. Therefore, the mass media, such as
television, Internet and radio, should try best to propaganda and advocate it. As
for ourselves, we should take practical actions to enhance our awareness of reading. Then, we have every reason to be convinced that we can have a bright future and a beautiful world.
As shown in the picture, a young woman is working at home. In a society where internet is widely used, the phenomenon is hardly surprising. By allowing employees to work at home, employers can widen the base from which they recruit and boost the chances of
capitalising on rich human capital. For instance, parents with childcare responsibilities and those with disabilities prefer to work at home.
Distance between their work place and their place of residence has never ceased to be a problem. Home working enables working people to perform their jobs at ease, and thus gives employers more options in human resource use.
Apart from those benefits, home working might have its drawbacks. Working at home deprives the employees of face to face communication with others, which is disadvantageous in social life. In addition, once any problem in work arises, it's impossible to discuss it with others immediately. In that case, home working can be very difficult and frustrating.
Therefore, I have to say that telecommuting job, like a coin, has two sides. It can provide convenience and satisfaction, but it may bring problems and trouble as well. Hence, home working has a long way to go to become popular.
archaeology is a source of history, not just a bumble auiliary discipline. archaeological data are historical documents in their own right, not mere illustrations to written tets, just as much as any other historian, an archaeologist studies and tries to reconstitute the process that has created the human world in which we live - and us ourselves in so far as we are each creatures of our age and social environment. archaeological data are all changes in the material world resulting from human action or, more succinctly, the fossilized results of human behavior. the sum total of these constitutes what may be called the archaeological record. this record ehibits certain peculiarities and deficiencies the consequences of which produce a rather superficial contrast between archaeological history and the more familiar kind based upon written records.
not all human behavior fossilizes. the words i utter and you hear as vibrations in the air are certainly human changes in the material world and may be of great historical significance. yet they leave no sort of trace in the archaeological records unless they are captured by a dictaphone or written down by a clerk. the movement of troops on the battlefield may change the course of history, but this is equally ephemeral from the archaeologists standpoint. what is perhaps worse, most organic materials are perishable. everything made of wood, hide, wool, linen, grass, hair, and similar materials will decay and vanish in dust in a few years or centuries, save under very eceptional conditions. in a relatively brief period the archaeological record is reduce to mere scraps of stone, bone, glass, metal, and earthenware. still modern archaeology, by applying appropriate techniques and comparative methods, aided by a few lucky finds from peat-bogs, deserts, and frozen soils, is able to fill up a good deal of the gap.
competition is a common phenomenon(現(xiàn)象) in our social life. we compete when we play games and when we try to do better than others in our study. there is constant(不變的) competition for academic(大學(xué)的) degrees, jobs, customers, money and so forth. in a sense(感覺), competition is one of the motive(推動的.) force to the development of society.
in the natural world, the weak will be replaced by the b and the fittest can live; therefore, the only way to survive(活下來) is to be competitive. growing in a competitive environment is important for a child because future adult life is difficult. finding a good job, for eample, is an etremely competitive activity. today, most people obtain knowledge through various ways and a large number of people get good education. there are also many people who have higher degrees in their special fields. the quality of people is rapidly increasing. competition is more violent(激烈的) that what we thought it should be. the potentially(潛在地) successful job applicant(申請人) has to be prepared in a ber position by gaining more qualification(資格) and eperience. in the sports contests(競爭), the best will come out as winners. they become our heroes and they are glorified(贊美). in the business world, to beat your competitors, you must be better than the other employees. otherwise you will be defeated(擊敗).
in fact, the only way our world reward(報答) people is to give laurels(殊榮) to the winners, not to the losers(失敗者). what is more, by attempting to compete at different activities, we learn to win and lose, gain eperience and know our strengths(實(shí)力) and weaknesses. competition prepares us for the tough(堅韌的) things in life.
to go ahead, to acquire possession(所有物), we should be competitive. to us, industriousness(勤奮) and ambition(抱負(fù)) are positive(確實(shí)的) values.
whether in games, in study or in business alike, the aim is to win the game, the degree, the trophy(戰(zhàn)利品), and the contract(合同). learning to be competitive is clearly the best preparation for life.
Where do we come from? How did the universe begin?why is the universe the way it is? How will it end?
Sll my life, i have been fascinated by the big questions that face us, and have tried to find scientific answers to them. If, like me, you have looked at the stars, and tried to make sense of what you see, you too have started to wonder what makes the universe eist. The questions are clear, and deceptively simple. But the answers have always seemed well beyond our reach. until now.
The ideas which had grown over two thousand years of observation have had to be radically revised. In less than a hundred years, we have found a new way to think of ourselves. From sitting at the center of the universe, we now find ourselves orbiting an average-sized sun, which is just one of millions of stars in our own milky way galay. And our galay itself is just one of billions of galaies, in a universe that is infinite and epanding. But this is far from the end of a long history of inquiry.Huge questions remain to be answered, before we can hope to have a complete picture of the universe we live in.
I want you to share my ecitement at the discoveries, past and present, which have revolutionized the way we think. From the big bang to black holes, from dark matter to a possible big crunch, our image of the universe today is full of strange sounding ideas, and remarkable truths. The story of how we arrived at this picture is the story of learning to understand what we see.
on university tuition system in china
directions: it is reported that many universities in china have begun to charge students for tuition. should university students in china pay their own tuition ? state two opposite opinions and illustrate them in detail. write an essay of about 200 words within 40 minutes.
tuition system has become one of the hottest topics in china since it was put into effect. reports on this topic are published in a variety of newspapers and magazines. people differ greatly in their opinions on it.
some people think that there is no university in the world which is open to students without tuition. as far as china is concerned, it is a developing country with the largest population in the world. the government is unable to allocate enough funds to pay for various teaching facilities and many different kinds of expenses. one of the ways to relieve the problem is for students to pay tuition. the money raised in this way can be used to improve the conditions for running schools.
others, however, are opposed to the tuition system. they argue that the living standard of the chinese people, especially of those in the poor rural areas, is still low, compared with that in the western world. the university tuition will certainly add to the already heavy burden of the parents, who live on their salaries or wages. moreover, tuition may become an obstacle to the development of china’s higher education. this is because it hinders some talented people from entering the university just on account of their poverty. I think high school students should be allowed to choose some of the subjects they study. However, the basic subjects, like mathematics, literature, and science, should be mandatory for all students.
When I was in high school, we were allowed to choose three electives each semester. Electives were subjects that weren’t part of the basic curriculum. They included things like music, journalism, art, and various kinds of team sports. Choosing some of these subjects to study gave me a chance to experiment. I was able to get a head start on what I was going to study in college.
However, college preparation shouldn’t be the main factor. I think all students should be allowed to take a certain number of courses just because they’re interested in them. For many students, high school is the last chance to learn about things they’re interested in. Maybe once they have a job there won’t be time for studying.
Of course, it’s also important that students study certain basic subjects. If I’d had a choice, I know I wouldn’t have studied mathematics or science. I wasn’t very interested in them. However, once I was in class, I found myself getting interested. I wouldn’t have known this if I’d been given the choice, because I would have chosen not to take the courses.
High school students aren’t always the best judges of what they’ll find useful in the years ahead. They need the guidance of experts in the field of education. However, they also need some freedom to follow their curiosity and individual interests. They should be given the freedom to choose some courses, while being required to take others.
The bar chart clearly indicates the turnover of online shopping and its growth rate in China from 2001 to 2008. During that period, there was a dramatic increase from 0.6 billion to 125 billion in its turnover. Meanwhile, the growth rate decreased from 200% to 110.4% at the same time.
Why dose this phenomenon take placeThere are generally three factors accounting for it. First and foremost, due to the fast economic and social development, people enjoy a sharp improvement in their living standards. Accordingly, they can afford to buy computers and mobile phones: the common tools for shopping online. Besides, e-shopping is extremely convenient and efficient. It is available 7/24 and this means people can buy what they want anytime without going out. Last but not least, the price of the goods online is much lower than those in the stores, which greatly caters to the consumer’s needs.
From what has been discussed above, we can predict that the turnover of online shopping will continue to increase at an alarming rate and it will give a huge boost to our national economy. However, we should also be aware of its drawbacks, such as fake commodities, personal financial security, illegal ads and so on. Thereby, we should take a reasonable and scientific attitude towards it.
As is vividly depicted in the picture, many young people are standing together when they find that there are so many ways to go.Thus, all of them are stopping there and waiting for help. Obviously, it is the shortage of confidence for their future that makes it impossible for them to get the attainment they want to.
Simple as it is, what the picture conveys to us is thought-provoking. With the development of economy and society, competition is increasingly fierce and there are more and more chance for us to get. But it is impossible for the ones to achieve attainments if the ones have no striving spirit to surmount the difficulties. Hence, people in mounting numbers put great emphasis on the striving spirit. In fact, it has been universally acknowledged that the ability of fighting is the most essential qualification that anyone who wants to achieve success should possess.
To my way of thinking, the problem that all of the college are just stopping and waiting but no fighting and thinking will generate severe consequences .Measures should be adopted before things get worse. It is high time that all of us ,parents, educators, and the authorities, make combined efforts to make young people change their outlook of life and acquire determined spirit. Only by this way is it reasonable for us to believe that this problem can be perfectly solved in the near future.
