⒈ 古代帝王授予臣下兵權(quán)和調(diào)發(fā)軍隊的信物,為虎形。初時以玉為之,后改用銅。背有銘文,剖為兩半,右半留中央,左半給予地方官吏或統(tǒng)兵的將帥。調(diào)發(fā)軍隊時,朝廷使臣須持符驗對,符合,始能發(fā)兵。此制盛行于 戰(zhàn)國、秦、漢,直至 隋 代。到了 唐 代始改用魚符。
